Cathy describes how fear affected her whole family.

I can say that this diagnosis was not only hard for me, but hard for my entire family. I had a procedure done. And I had blood clots from my toes all the way to the upper end of my thigh. When you have emergency surgery like that, and it’s the second time that you’ve been told that you’ve almost lost your life, and that you’ve got two kids, and a husband. It’s hard. It’s really hard. I can’t really explain the fear that I had. And the fear that was in my husband’s eyes that I never want to see again. He thought he was losing me. And that call that I made to my kid, telling him ‘Look, mom’s in the hospital… nothing to worry about’ – when there really clearly was. ‘But I love you’. Just not knowing if it was the last time or not. So yeah it’s hard on everyone. It changes the dynamic. The family dynamic. And it involves everyone. It makes everyone worry.
